Insulation Sheaths for Wiring and Electric Heating Elements (24/04/2017)

Within Electricfor's range of products, with a long history in the design and distribution of electric heating elements, we find the so-called insulating sheaths for wiring and heating elements of which its primary objective is the resistance to abrasion and corrosion. Furthermore, they also offer mechanical protection and protection against high temperatures.

Types of insulating sheaths

Electricfor designs 4 models of insulating sheaths with materials that especially favour the protection of wiring and heating elements that are part of, for example, small appliances:

-    Fibreglass insulation sheath with silicone rubber layer belonging to the TU-FIVISI Range --> It is a braided sheath made of fibreglass and containing a silicone rubber layer. It can withstand temperatures up to 290 °C and is suitable for resistance in humid environments and chemical atmospheres. Among its most common applications, we can find it in the internal wiring of rotary machines, in heating devices or as a thermal insulation of cable harnesses.

-    Fibreglass insulation sheath impregnated with clear silicone varnish, TU-FIVI models -->  Like the previous case, this one is also braided and glass-fibered, although totally unplanned and impregnated with a pure silicone varnish. It can withstand a maximum temperature of 400° C; it is incombustible and suitable for a mechanical resistance. It is commonly used in heating elements, cooking appliances and electrothermal machines.

-    Silicon fibre strand insulation sheath, TU-SILICIO models --> With a good flexibility and an excellent thermal insulation, this insulating sheath can withstand temperatures up to 1,200° C and has a very high chemical resistance to acids. Its common application is in non-conductive harnesses as protection and industrial ovens and stoves.

-    Silicone rubber coated mineral fibre insulation sleeve, TU_FIMINSI models --> This type of sheath possesses an excellent flexibility at low temperatures and its thick braid guarantees a thermal protection. It also contains a silicone layer that is resistant to flames and acts as a reinforcement of its thermal efficiency. It is mainly applied in the steel, chemical and petrochemical sectors, as well as in shipbuilding and railway. Its application is based on the American aeronautical standard SAE 1072.
